How Often Do Jaguars Need Oil Changes?

As with any vehicle, Jaguars need regular oil changes. The manufacturer determines the frequency based on testing its engines. The manufacturer recommends 7,500 to 10,000 miles, depending on the model and engine.

Some sources say if you use Jaguar-approved motor oil, you can go as long as 16,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, without changing the oil. If you are unsure how often you should change the oil for the model you drive and can’t find your owner’s manual, contact Crowne Automotive in Hummelstown, PA—we can look it up for you.

Ignoring the Jaguar Oil Change Interval

Not changing the oil as the manufacturer recommends is the worst thing you can do to your vehicle. After a time, oil picks up dust, carbon, and other debris from the engine. The more debris in the oil, the less lubrication it provides to the engine.

While Jaguar does recommend up to 16,000 miles or a year with its approved motor oil, we don’t recommend that you go beyond 10,000 miles without changing the oil.

Severe-Use Oil Change Intervals

If your driving is considered severe, you may want to change the oil every 5,000 miles instead of waiting for 7,500 or more. Severe duty means commercial use, towing, racing, and off-roading. While most people won’t take Jaguar off-roading, these cars can be fun to take to the drag races, especially if you have a performance model.

Severe duty means that the oil is subject to more heat, which causes more carbon that affects its lubrication properties. Some manufacturers consider driving only in the city severe use because constant stop-and-go driving causes carbon to build up in the oil and the cylinders faster.

Our Jaguar Oil Change Service Process

When you bring your Jaguar into Crowne Automotive for an oil change, we also check the vehicle for visible fluid leaks. We also check visible components, including the air filter, brakes, belts, hoses, suspension, steering, and exhaust systems.

The oil change process includes changing the filter. We put your vehicle on the lift. That allows us access to the oil drain plug and to see if anything under the vehicle needs attention. When we remove the oil drain plug, we check the threads on it to ensure it’s not stripped or otherwise damaged.

Once the oil completely drains, we clean the oil drain plug. Next, we locate the filter and remove it. We always change the oil filter when we do an oil change.

After removing the filter, we clean the oil filter housing and make sure the old gasket came off with the filter. Before installing the new filter, we swipe the gasket with oil, then install it on the oil filter housing. We can then reinstall the drain plug and let the car down.

Depending on your engine, it could take five or more quarts of oil. Most vehicles take about five-and-a-half quarts—that extra half-quart is to fill the oil filter. Once we add the oil to the engine, we let the vehicle sit for a few minutes to ensure the oil dripped into the drain pan.

We check the oil dipstick to ensure we put sufficient oil in the engine. Finally, we start the vehicle and look for oil leaks or an improperly installed oil filter. If everything looks good, we shut the vehicle off and recheck the oil.
